The Families First programme brings the DfE's Family Help reforms into Mosaic, replacing the existing Child in Need (CiN) and Early Help pathways with a new Family Help workflow. As part of this, three pieces of new functionality are now available.
Worker relationship URIs
You can now reference any professional relationship type in a form using a new URI pattern, workerRelationshipsByType/[CODE], pulling through a worker's name, contact details, and other information. This isn't limited to Family Help roles — it works for any relationship type configured in your system, and supports both single-person and group (subjects table) forms. Use the existing Find URI tool to discover available data properties, then substitute in your relationship type code.
Worker summary date fields
Start and end dates can now be added to Other Information items on the worker summary — useful for recording things like training dates, DBS checks, or social worker registration dates. These are configured per item via Worker Reference Types in reference data, and apply to newly created items going forward.
Case status badges
A new Family Help badge appears on a child's record while they're within a Family Help workflow, alongside either a Child in Need or Targeted Early Help badge based on their recorded level of need. These badges are driven by your own local configuration — mapping the relevant workflow steps and form questions — so you can set them up in a way that fits your service design and reporting needs.
Getting started
All of this is available now on the Customer Familiarisation instance, alongside the full Family Help workflow and forms, so you can explore the configuration before deciding how to roll it out locally.
⚠️ Important: You must be on Mosaic 26.1.1.0 or later for case status badges to work correctly.
Full guidance coming soon
A guide to badge mapping is attached to this article. We're also finalising a broader guide covering the use of Mosaic for Family Help and how to transition your workflow, which is coming soon — keep an eye on updates to this article.
