Timed-out case notes open in edit mode instead of append mode from the home screen widget

A known issue in Mosaic 25.2 and 26.1 where timed-out case notes opened from the Unfinished Case Notes widget allow full editing instead of restricting the user to the append screen.

This article describes a known issue where timed-out case notes opened from the Unfinished Case Notes widget on the home screen are not correctly identified as timed out. This affects users on Mosaic versions 25.2.0.0, 25.2.1, and 26.1.0.0. Below you will find what is happening, who is affected, and a workaround until a fix is released.

⚠️ Important: This issue allows users to edit the original content of timed-out case notes, which should not be permitted. If your organisation has users with unfinished, timed-out case notes, please share the workaround below until a fix is available.

Affected versions and area

Mosaic 25.2.0.0, 25.2.1, and 26.1.0.0.

Previously working correctly in Mosaic 25.1.1.0 and earlier.

Area: Unfinished Case Notes widget (home screen).

What is happening

When a case note is both unfinished and timed out, the Unfinished Case Notes widget on the home screen is not correctly recognising the timed-out status. This causes two problems:

  • The widget displays the standard unfinished icon instead of the timed-out icon, making it difficult to distinguish timed-out case notes from those that have not yet timed out.

  • Clicking on a timed-out case note from the widget opens the Edit case note screen instead of the Append case note screen. This allows the user to edit the original case note content, which should only be possible for case notes that have not yet timed out.

In previous versions, the widget correctly identified timed-out case notes and opened them in the Append case note screen, which only allowed the user to add an appendment and finish.

Who is affected

Any user on an affected version who has unfinished, timed-out case notes appearing in the Unfinished Case Notes widget on the home screen.

Impact

Users may unknowingly edit the original content of a timed-out case note instead of appending to it. This could affect the integrity of the case note record, as timed-out case notes should only be appended to or finished β€” not edited.

Workaround

Until a fix is available, do not open timed-out case notes from the widget on the home screen. Instead:

  1. Go to the person or group record for the relevant individual.

  2. Open the case notes screen from there.

  3. Open the timed-out case note from the case notes list.

This route correctly restricts editing and displays the Append case note screen as expected.

Fix status

This issue has been logged as a bug and will be addressed in a future release.
