When the Sole Next Action option is greyed out

The Sole option’s disabled when the next action either:

  1. Has the mandatory flag set, or

  2. Has multiple entry rules configured (like inclusive REQUIRES_ALL or exclusive MAX_ONE_OF rules with other next actions).

Why Not Sole is always available

The Not Sole option doesn’t have these restrictions it can coexist with mandatory flags and multiple entry rules. That’s by design.

Is this a bug or Intentional

It’s intentional. The system enforces mutual exclusivity rules:

  • A next action can’t be both sole and mandatory.

  • A next action can’t be both sole and have multiple entry rules.

Business logic behind this:

  • If it’s mandatory, users must select it anyway, so making it Sole is redundant.

  • If it’s linked by inclusive or exclusive rules, it can’t be Sole by definition.

Can It Be Updated?

Yes, but you’ll need to remove the conflicting configuration first:

  1. If it’s mandatory: Uncheck the Mandatory box in the step configuration. This enables the Sole option.

  2. If it has multiple entry rules: Remove any REQUIRES_ALL or MAX_ONE_OF rules linking this next action to others.

Once you remove the mandatory flag or entry rules, the Sole Next Action option becomes available.
