Special characters, Unicode, html in database tables prevents resuming step and viewing or printing of forms

Errors:

'An invalid XML character (Unicode: 0x18) was found in the element content of the document'

'org.springframework.oxm.UnmarshallingFailureException: JAXB unmarshalling exception; nested exception is javax.xml.bind.UnmarshalException'

This is usually due to a special or unicode character in a form answer.
