England only

Although technically a Care Order does not 'end' when a Placement Order is in place, we have looked into the legalities around this and confirmed that although the Care Order is not ended, it is suspended, and the Placement Order becomes the valid order at the time.

Mosaic is designed for a single looked after status to be recorded for a child, because only one legal status is actually in force at any one time, so the correct recording in this instance would be to end the Care Order and Start the Placement Order, If the Placement does not go forward into permanence and so the Care Order comes back into force, the Placement Order would be ended and the Care order reinstated.

Scotland only

There are some looked after legal statuses in Scotland that do run concurrently, and we have an item on the backlog to add this ability into Mosaic at some point in the future. We would recommend that customers who would want this change raise/vote on it in Aha.

In the meantime, we would suggest you talk to other customers in the local user group about how they manage it within Mosaic. It is possible, for example, to use a non-looked after legal status alongside a legal status. It is important to ensure that whichever solution you use fits with your reporting requirements.
