Understand case chronologies

Mosaic provides two types of case chronology — a system-generated event log and worker-created curated chronologies.

The system-generated case chronology is an automatic log of events produced by workflow steps, case notes, and other system actions — it is read-only. A created chronology is a worker-authored document that selects and frames a subset of case events. A person can have multiple created chronologies, each owned by a responsible worker and team.

What a created chronology contains

Each created chronology has:

  • A title (up to 100 characters).

  • Column visibility settings - you can choose to include or exclude: age, source, description, and analysis.

  • Events - individual entries with a date range, category, source, description, and analysis.

  • A responsible worker and team.
    - A status - Active, Finished, or Reopened.

Chronology statuses

Status

Meaning

Active

The chronology is being worked on and can be edited.

Finished

The chronology has been completed. It can be reopened if needed.

Reopened

A finished chronology that has been reopened for further editing.

Who can access a chronology

Access to a created chronology is determined by:

  • Responsible worker - can always edit the chronology.

  • Responsible team - workers in the same team can edit it.

  • Worker access list - additional workers can be given access.

  • Chronology Admin - workers with the admin permission can access all chronologies regardless of ownership.

📌Note: The system calculates your access at the time you view the chronology. If you cannot see edit or reassign options, you may not be the responsible worker or a member of the responsible team.

Chronology locking

When you open a chronology for editing, Mosaic acquires a session lock to prevent other users from making changes at the same time. Operations such as copy, finish, reopen, reassign, and delete all check for an active lock before proceeding.

Permissions

Permission

What it allows

Chronology Admin

Full access to all chronologies regardless of ownership

Chronology Edit

Required for most editing operations

Chronology CC

View and manage created chronologies

Chronology CC Delete

Delete created chronologies

Chronology Word Export

Export chronologies to Word format

Chronology Reopen

Reopen finished chronologies

Most operations require a combination of permissions. For example, creating a chronology requires both Chronology Edit and Chronology CC.
