Mosaic supports three types of relationship: person-to-person, person-to-organisation, and person-to-worker. Recording relationships helps build a full picture of a person's family, support network, and the professionals involved in their care.
Person-to-person relationships
Person-to-person relationships capture family structures, household composition, and social networks.
Relationship types
Relationship | Reciprocal |
Mother | Son or Daughter |
Father | Son or Daughter |
Sibling | Sibling |
Partner | Partner |
Carer | Cared For |
How reciprocal relationships work
Relationships are bidirectional. When you add a relationship for one person, Mosaic automatically creates the reciprocal relationship on the other person's record. For example, if you add "Mother" to Person A linking to Person B, Person B automatically receives "Son" or "Daughter" linking back to Person A.
Parental responsibility
You can flag parental responsibility separately on a relationship. This indicates legal parental responsibility, which is distinct from biological parenthood.
Additional attributes
You can add extra information to a relationship, such as custody arrangements or contact restrictions.
Person-to-organisation relationships
Person-to-organisation relationships link a person to the organisations involved in their care or life.
β
Type | Description |
GP Surgery | Primary care provider |
School | Educational institution |
Care Provider | Social care service provider |
Employer | Employment relationship |
Person-to-worker relationships
Person-to-worker relationships assign workers to a person for case management and service delivery.
β

Allocated Worker | Primary case worker |
Key Worker | Lead worker for a specific service |
Social Worker | Qualified social worker assignment |
Leading relationships
Some worker relationship types are designated as leading. This means only one instance of that type can be active at a time per person. For example, a person can only have one active Allocated Worker.
π Note: If you try to add a second leading relationship of the same type, you will need to end the existing one first.
Add a relationship
Open the relevant person record.
Navigate to Relationships.
Click Add and select the relationship type: Person, Organisation, or Worker.
Search for and select the related person, organisation, or worker.
Select the Relationship type from the list.
Set the Start date and, if applicable, the End date.
Add any additional attributes if required, such as parental responsibility.
Click Save.
π€ Tip: For person-to-person relationships, the reciprocal relationship is created automatically. You do not need to add it manually on the other person's record.
