Mosaic allows you to make targeted updates to a person's name, demographics, date of death, and context. Updates are subject to security checks, and some fields may be locked from editing by your system administrator.
What you can update
Categories | Fields you can change |
Display name | Title, first names, last name. This is the name shown throughout Mosaic. |
Registered name | Registered first names, registered last name. This is the legal or official name used on formal documents. |
Demographics | Ethnicity, nationality, religion, and other demographic fields. |
Date of death | Records the date of death. This is validated against the date of birth. |
Context | Changes the classification between Child and Adult. |
Name types
Mosaic maintains several types of name for each person:
Display name | the name shown in search results, case lists, and throughout the system |
Registered name | the legal or officially registered name, used on formal documents |
Alias | alternative names the person may be known by |
Update a person's details
Open the relevant person record.
Navigate to the section you want to update, for example Display name or Demographics.
Make your changes.
Click Save.
π Note: You can update individual sections independently. You do not need to save the entire record each time.
Forbidden properties
Your system administrator can configure certain fields as forbidden from update. Common examples include:
NHS Number.
Legacy Person ID.
If a field is configured as forbidden, the system prevents the change. This protects data integrity and meets compliance requirements.

Troubleshooting
Issue | Cause | What to do |
A field cannot be edited | The field is configured as a forbidden property. | Contact your system administrator if this needs to be changed. |
Date of death is rejected | The date of death entered is before the person's date of birth. | Check both dates are correct. |
Changes are not saving | You may not have the required permissions. | Check your user role and permissions with your system administrator. |
