The Oracle Java Development Kit (JDK) can be used to run WebLogic and deployed applications such as Mosaic or MIS in production or development. It cannot be used to run other Java based tools released with Mosaic. The Oracle JDK should generally not be installed on other machines where WebLogic is not in use unless for development use only.

Oracle recommends, in Oracle support document 1557737.1, that the Oracle JDK is configured to be used only by the WebLogic product. However, the WebLogic installation scripts add the Oracle JDK to the system path. Engineers should avoid using any tools on the application server host which require Java to avoid risk of unlicensed use.

The tools packaged as executable installers on Windows with an OpenJDK are:

  • Fileloader.

  • ErUpgrader.

  • Upgrade Tool.

Fileloader and ERUpgrader tools are supplied in Mosaic releases in the stand_alone_apps directory. There are installers for Windows and zip archives with scripts for Linux. The Mosaic Upgrade Tool is packaged with the OpenJDK and is available as a Windows and as a Linux installer.

The Mosaic release SFTP site will be updated to archive non standalone versions of these tools.

We advise everyone to review their Mosaic systems and installations to ensure they are conforming to the Oracle licences.
