We made changes to gender and name recording in Mosaic 22.1 and 22.2 to provide a more flexible and accurate way to record a client’s personal data, including their gender, pronouns, and names.
Before upgrading from versions prior to 22.1, you should consider the following areas, in line with your own local processes and procedures.

Mosaic 22.1
Gender
You can find the Gender field on the person record. This is a drop-down selection found in the Person Details – Basic Details menu. There is a default set of values, however you can locally configure the list in the Configuration tools, in the Reference data menu.
Separate URIs are available for Gender and Sex (as per Health system). All current URIs populate from the Sex (as per Health system) field and the new genderIdentity URIs populate Gender.
Pronouns
The Pronouns free text field is on the person record, and editable in the Person details – Basic details menu. This field has a maximum of 30 characters.
Gender/pronoun notes field
The free text field, Gender/pronoun notes on the person record, and you can edit this in the Person details – Basic details menu. When complete, it triggers an information icon to show against the Gender field, and if complete, the Pronouns field on the person summary and group summary.
Person creation
When you create a person record, the create person screen appears in 22.1 as it did previously. The Sex (as per Health system) field pre-populated to the matching gender in the new Gender field.
Permissions
We’ve amended the person view permission previously labelled Gender to Sex (as per Health system) and users retain this permission on upgrade with they already have it. This only controls the viewing of the sex (as per Health system) data.
Mosaic 22.2
Display and Registered names
This update separates the recording of a display name from a registered name.
Mosaic requires a registered name for things such as integrations with health systems, for example CP-IS or NHS Information sharing and viewers, and for some legal documentation.
Where the registered name is not a requirement, the display name is the name to use across the system for that person.
Person record: Names
We’ve made an update to the search results to show you which name types the search is returning. All display names return in bold, so it’s clear when names you use for the person. Any other names, including registered names and other names show in brackets to distinguish the type.
Person record: Gender and names
When you create a person record, the create person screen appears in 22.2 as it did previously, but with the addition of the Gender drop-down options. Where you select the Gender, this populated the Gender field. The Gender field is options when creating a person, so the Sex (as per Health system) field pre-populates to the matching gender in the new Gender field where you don’t select a gender.
The person's name fields populate through to both the Registered name and Display name fields.
Other names
There’s been no change to the functionality of the other names recording and it is still available for use in the same way as previously.
